Who
The Fraser Valley Bible Conference is a joint effort between several churches in the greater
Fraser Valley, B.C. The churches currently supporting this conference are:
• Abbotsford Free Reformed Church
• Chilliwack Free Reformed Church
• Chilliwack Heritage Reformed Church
• Langly Free Reformed Church
• New Westminster Orthodox Reformed Church
Why
It is the objective of the annual Fraser Valley Bible Conference to advance the cause of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Fraser Valley and beyond, and to equip the churches in the Fraser Valley to be faithful and effective witnesses of the Saviour and his gospel.
How
Dr. Thomas is a minister of the gospel who has been engaged in pastoral ministry since 1979. Originally
from Wales, Derek Thomas is the John E. Richards Professor of Systematic and Practical Theology at
Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS), Jackson, Mississippi. After pastoring for 17 years in Belfast, Northern
Ireland, Dr. Thomas returned to the USA in 1996 where, in addition to his work at the seminary, he serves as
the Minister of Teaching at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
In addition to serving in the pastorate, Derek has served as editor of the Evangelical Presbyterian, a monthly
denominational magazine. A graduate of RTS in 1978, he gained a Ph.D. from the University of Wales,
writing his thesis on Calvin’s preaching on the book of Job. Since then he has written numerous books, including
The Storm Breaks: Job Simply Explained; Wisdom: the Key to Living God’s Way; and God Strengthens: Ezekiel
Simply Explained. Among his more recent publications are Making the Most of Your Devotional Life based on the
Ascent Psalms, and Praying the Savior’s Way, based on the Lord’s Prayer.
Derek Thomas also serves as the Editorial Director of The Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals and the editor
of its magazine, Reformation 21.
As a result of his many years of experience as a pastor and professor, Dr. Thomas is a very capable, articulate,
and effective communicator. Consequently he is in demand as a speaker at conferences around the world, and we are
therefore very pleased that he has committed himself to speak at our conference this year.
